Our perlite filter aid is produced from natural volcanic glass perlite ore. The ore is crushed, screened and expanded in a high-temperature furnace (approx. 760-1,100°C), then milled, classified and optionally flux-calcined into controlled permeability grades. The final product is a white, lightweight, highly porous powder with a sponge-like microstructure.
The unique porous structure physically traps suspended solids while allowing liquid to pass through rapidly, achieving an ideal balance between filtration clarity and flow rate. The material is chemically inert — insoluble in water, resistant to most acids and alkalis (except hydrofluoric acid), and does not react with or alter the filtrate.
Multiple grades are available with different permeability values to match various liquid viscosities and clarity requirements, from coarse grades for fast flow to fine grades for high polish. They support both precoat (pre-coating a filter cake on the filter medium) and body feed (continuous dosing into the liquid) filtration processes.
Widely used for clarification of edible oil, syrup and beverages, as well as pharmaceutical, chemical, drinking water and wastewater filtration. Suitable for food-contact applications with proper grade selection. Available in small bags and bulk packing; large-volume orders support custom grade and private-label packing.
Important note: Fine powder — wear dust mask during handling to avoid inhalation. Food-contact use requires selecting compliant grade per application. Not for direct consumption.
Appearance features
1. White to off-white powder: Features a uniform, clean white color, ensuring a high-purity final product that does not affect the appearance of the filtrate.
2. Sponge-like porous microstructure: Characterized by a unique honeycomb-like microporous structure with a high pore volume, which serves as the core mechanism for efficiently trapping suspended solids.
3. Lightweight with low bulk density: Possesses an apparent density of approximately 0.10–0.25 g/cm³; its loose, lightweight nature allows for a large filtration surface area per unit of weight.
4. Dry, free-flowing particles: The powder remains loose without clumping, ensuring uniform distribution during pre-coating or direct dosing, as well as consistent metering.
5. Chemically inert and stable: Insoluble in water and resistant to acids and bases (with the exception of hydrofluoric acid); it does not react with the filtrate.
6. Consistent batch-to-batch quality: Produced via standardized calcination and classification processes, ensuring uniform permeability and particle size distribution across different batches.
Advantages
1. Excellent Clarification and Flow Rate: The porous structure strikes an optimal balance between capturing suspended solids and maintaining high filtration flow rates, ensuring both filtrate clarity and production throughput.
2. Chemically Inert—Preserves Filtrate Integrity: Insoluble and non-reactive, it does not leach substances or introduce odors and impurities, thereby maintaining the original composition and flavor profile of the filtrate.
3. Reliable for Food and Beverage Applications: When the appropriate grade is selected, it is suitable for the filtration of food and beverage products—such as beer, wine, fruit juice, and edible oils—ensuring product safety.
4. Cost-Effective Filtration: Lightweight and highly efficient, it provides a large filtration surface area per unit of material used, keeping overall filtration costs manageable.
5. Flexible Supply and Customization: Available in various formats, from small bags and bulk bags to full container loads. We also offer customized product grades, bespoke packaging/labeling, and OEM private-label services.
Application scenarios
Clarification of beer, wine, fruit juice and beverages to remove yeast, colloids and suspended impurities for better brightness.
Filtration after edible oil bleaching & deodorizing, syrup and condiment clarification to remove trace suspended solids and extend shelf life.
Fine filtration of pharmaceutical solutions, chemical intermediates, solvents and high-purity liquids to remove particulate impurities.
Used as filter aid in drinking water purification and industrial / municipal wastewater treatment for better solid-liquid separation.
