Our hollow glass microspheres are manufactured from high-quality soda-lime-borosilicate glass. The glass melt is formed into microscopic hollow spheres through a high-temperature spraying process, producing extremely thin-walled, low-density particles with a smooth spherical surface. Available grades cover true density from approx. 0.25 to 0.50 g/cm³ and particle size from approx. 10 to 110 μm.
As chemically inert inorganic filler, the microspheres do not absorb resin or solvent, which helps formulators increase pigment volume concentration, raise volume solids and reduce VOC emission. Their spherical shape improves flow and leveling, while the hollow structure delivers excellent thermal insulation with low thermal conductivity, reducing heat transfer through the coating film.
The microspheres effectively lower coating density for lighter-weight films, reduce shrinkage and internal stress to improve crack resistance, and enhance anti-settling performance of fillers in the formula. They are compatible with solvent-based, waterborne and powder coating systems.
Widely used in marine & anti-corrosion coatings, architectural thermal-insulation coatings, automotive coatings, fire-retardant coatings, coil coatings and industrial paints. Available in small bags and drums for lab & pilot use, and bulk supply for coating manufacturers and compounders. Large-volume orders support custom density / particle size grades and private-label packing.
Product Details
· Sealed, thin-walled hollow microspheres; white powder appearance: Appears as a fine white powder to the naked eye and as intact, sealed hollow spheres under a microscope; features thin shells with inert gas encapsulated inside.
· Intact spherical particles with excellent flowability: Spherical structure—distinct from flake-like or needle-like mineral fillers—allows for rolling flow within resin systems and minimizes agglomeration.
· Multiple grades based on density and compressive strength: A comprehensive range covering everything from low-density/low-strength to high-density/high-strength options, suitable for applications ranging from standard coatings to high-pressure oil and gas environments.
· Controllable particle size distribution and uniform sizing: Median particle size (D50) typically ranges from 15 to 85 μm; high batch-to-batch consistency ensures minimal performance variation in the finished product.
· Borosilicate glass composition; water-insoluble: Inorganic glass material that does not dissolve in water or release colored impurities; slightly alkaline (pH 8.0–9.5).
· Low oil absorption and high loading capacity: Spheres have a low specific surface area and low oil absorption, enabling high filler loading levels without excessive resin consumption.
